Here critics and scholars comment on biographies, autobiographies, memoirs, journals, diaries, letters, and works in media other than print that constitute this fluid genre. Broad in scope, this particular collection shows how the different elements of lifewriting do and can inform each other and includes a section devoted to essays that blend biographical and autobiographical work with that of other genres. Topics include the auto/biographical study of Benjamin Franklin, narratives of national belonging in the Avon Press "Growing Up" anthologies, Margaret Oliphant's criticism, Plath's and Hughes's criticism of each other, women's move into the public in nineteenth-century German periodicals, autobiography as a tool of the adult learner, and the construction of a personal Paris according to Hemingway and Gopnik. Reviews cover a range of works, including those about Robert Lowell, Mary Robinson, Queen Noor, and Virginia Woolf.
