Life term for kidnapping, bid to rape nine-year old.
AJMAN -- The Ajman Criminal Court for First Instance on Wednesday sentenced a 38-year-old Arab national to life imprisonment for kidnapping and trying to rape a nine-year-old Asian girl.
The court panel headed by Judge Dr Omar Al Ghoul also sentenced the accused to 80 lashes for consuming alcohol, and fined him Dh20,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol and Dh500 for driving against the traffic flow threatening the lives of other road users. The court also ordered to withdraw his driving licence.
He will be deported after serving the jail term. According to the police and prosecution records, the incident happened on February 23. The girl and her friend were walking home from a Quran learning centre before the evening prayer. The Arab man stopped his 4WD beside them, greeted her in Arabic and extended his hand for shaking hands. When she responded by extending her hand, he pulled her inside his vehicle and sped away to a dark and deserted spot in Al Remailah area. He dropped her on the ground and slapped her in the face. He forcibly undressed her and was about to rape the girl when a police patrol vehicle appeared on the scene. On seeing it, he left the girl and fled without his pants. The police managed to arrest him after a chase.
The girl's father told the Public Prosecution that he used to send his daughter to memorise Quran in the centre along with other girls. Her friend who was in her company was screaming and said an Arab man driving a white four-wheel drive kidnapped the girl.
The father immediately informed the police who dispatched a police patrol team to the area.
He also lodged a complaint with the Al Humaidiay police station where he waited until the police informed that they had found his daughter and arrested the abductor. The girl informed the police that the man had taken her to a dark area and removed her clothes. When she continued screaming, he slapped her and gagged her mouth with his hand. When he saw the police, he pushed her away and ran away.
A police officer who was in the patrol team said: "We caught the accused red-handed while trying to rape the girl. We arrested him after a chase and rescued the girl, who was very terrified and took her to Khalifa Hospital for a medical check-up."
