Life in the White House.

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the setting of the White House cornerstone, Very Special Arts and the White House Historical Associations are sponsoring The White House 200th Anniversary Art Exhibition. This national exhibition of artworks by student artists with disabilities across the country, will be displayed at the White House and other Washington sites this month.

Very Special Arts is an education affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Founded in 1974 by Jean Kennedy Smith, Very Special Arts is an international organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities through programs in the arts. The White House Historical Association is a historical and educational, nonprofit organization chartered in 1961 to enhance public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion.

Students were invited to submit artwork depicting the theme Life in the White House. The artists of the selected works and their chaperons will be invited to Washington, DC to attend the exhibition's opening.

The White House 200th Anniversary Art Exhibition will offer a forum for students with disabilities to be recognized for their creative ability, and heighten public awareness of the contribution the arts make to education.
