Chris Meletis is a professional naturopath and the series editor for Praeger Publisher series 'Complementary and Alternative Medicine'. The latest addition to this outstanding collection is "Liberation From Allergies: Natural Approaches To Freedom And Better Health" in which Meleits deftly examines a wide range of diverse allergies such as those to various foods, household dust, airborne irritants and pollens, synthetic materials like latex, and common chemicals. "Liberation From Allergies" explains why allergies occur and documents the statistical rise in the percentage of the general population that suffers from allergic reactions. Of special note is the discussion with respect to the 'hygiene hypothesis' which argues that over-bathing and overuse of antibiotics and antibacterial agents prevents the human immune system from building necessary resistance to various substances in youth that leave people vulnerable to the onset of allergies as they age. Very highly recommended for personal reading lists and community library Health/Medicine reference collections, "Liberation From Allergies" provides and informed and informative discussion on both naturopathic and traditional pharmaceutical approaches to the treatment of allergies and the current testing of vaccines for some food allergies.
