Libel damages awarded over book about Malaysian politician.
A former deputy prime minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, has been awarded libel damages over a book that accused him of sexual misconduct.
Anwar had sued author Khalid Jafri for his 1998 book '50 Reasons Why Anwar Ibrahim Cannot Become Prime Minister', which was described by High Court Judge Hishamuddin Yunus as a "vicious and venomous public attack".
The libel damages awarded in the case total MYR4.5m, although Anwar has said that the money was "never an issue" for him, reported The Associated Press.
