Letter: your say - Regeneration joke.

Byline: Bernie Hunt

PETER Mooney's letter (ECHO, August 7) headlined Regeneration For All would have been funny had it not been for the tragic consequences 'regeneration' has had for the communities of Edge Hill and Waver tree Road.

Mr Mooney found his old neighbourhood of Waver tree Road to be a shell of what it once was, and "perfectly good houses along Edge Lane all marked for demolition".

Perhaps Mr Mooney would be interested in learning that both these areas are part of a council-run 'regeneration initiative' called New Deal for Communities which has been 'running' for over eight and a half years.

In that time, it has decimated communities, all in the name of creating 'development opportunities' for anyone with the cash to 'develop'.

Perhaps, in future, any more 'New Deal initiatives' could be managed by private sector concerns, where the focus may be more on customer satisfaction and not on tweaking the local housing market.
