Letter: your Say - Falcon attacks; In association with POST OFFICE.
I WAS appalled to read of the barbaric attacks on peregrine falcons and their nest sites in the Kingswinford area (Mail, May 30).
These gross acts were all the worse for being conducted against a species unjustifiably persecuted over many years and only now slowly re-establishing itself in Britain.
The police have appealed for help. Their investigations should start with local pigeon fanciers for it is well known that peregrines have a particular appetite for these birds and have few friends in the homing pigeon fraternity.
Most pigeon flyers, I have found, are decent sorts who would not condone such attacks. However, there are certainly some who would, and are just as likely to delight in taking pot shots with pellet guns at curious cats or go to such hideous extremes of cruelty against the peregrine.
