Letter: YourSay - Don't change St George.
IN response to Robert Gill (Your Say, August 2), I would point out to him that I have indeed read Samantha Riches' book, along with many others, on St George.
My letter was not a rant but a statement of the facts as I see them.
In suggesting that we reinvent St George he joins the sinister gang as he called them, hell bent on reinventing the bits of our history they do not like, thus he is hoisted by his own petard.
Our forbears neither knew nor cared little about multi-culturalism.
They were merely choosing a great symbol of their Christian heritage in St George and perhaps showing allegiance to fellow believers in Europe ever busy defending the outer regions of Christendom.
Nigel E Bower, Burton Hastings, Nuneaton.
