Letter: Your view - Name games.

Byline: Colin Bower

WHY are so many people upset when addressed by such terms of endearment as "luv", "me dear" or "me duck"?

In the past I have been called a "limey" in Canada, a"roi neck" in South Africa and a "pom" in Australia.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me, especially when spoken in an affectionate manner.

As Shakespeare wrote: "What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".
