Letter: Your Say. - Sit down and talk together.
TONY Johnstone (Put An End To Bypass Nimbyism, 08.01.09) was spot on in relation to comments made by East Cleveland Independent Councillor Steve Kay on the East Middlesbrough bypass.
Hopefully the so-called micro-municipal mindset quoted by Mr Johnstone attributed to Cllr Kay are now things of the past.
These type of cross-boundary issues should be resolved with the relevant councils sitting down together and coming up with solutions that benefit the vast majority of people.
I will continue to talk with Tees Valley authorities on issues that affect us in the sub-region, along with issues that appertain to us within the North-east and North Yorkshire regions.
One can understand Mr Johnstone's concerns when he makes references to the last local government reorganisation when Cleveland County Council was abolished in 1996.
If Cleveland County Council had been retained and district councils abolished, then micro-municipal mindsets, as outlined in Mr Johnstone's letter, would be few and far between, especially on cross-boundary issues like the East Middlesbrough bypass.
