Letter: Your Say - Trick cyclists on pavement.

Byline: BARRY COPPINGER and EDDIE DRYDEN

THE news that Middlesbrough Police Launch Crackdown On Cyclists On Pavements (22.01.09) will be a welcome read for many residents, particularly those with mobility difficulties.

Equally importantly, as councillors from all parts of the town will confirm, it chimes with comments many receive at ward surgeries and community meetings.

Riding cycles on the pavement has surfaced at various neighbourhood policing consultation meetings, usually at community councils, and is being looked at locally. For instance, in Berwick Hills the community council discussed this some time ago as a priority and local beat officers are responding and in discussion with ourselves re appropriate hot-spots.

Hopefully members of the public will support the police and other enforcement officers in tackling this dangerous practice and otherwise taking this issue forward, as a good example of neighbourhood policing in action.

BARRY COPPINGER and EDDIE DRYDEN,

Labour councillors for Pallister and Berwick Hills,
