Letter: Your Say - IT IS very understandable.

IT IS very understandable that Middlesbrough Council is giving very serious consideration to banning dogs running unleashed in our public parks and open spaces.

There are, of course, many decent and responsible pet owners living throughout Teesside. Unfortunately there are also significant numbers of totally irresponsible people who let their pets run free, fouling our parks, open spaces and streets.

This anti-social action provides the potential for young children to catch infections, that in some instances can result in blindness and other life threatening diseases.

Surely the answer is to provide designated areas where dog owners can let their pets run freely, with appropriate facilities provided for the many responsible dog owners to clean up any fouling caused by their pets while on or off their leads.
