Letter: Your Say - Cattle markets by computer.

Byline: Janet Cummings

I REFER to the incident at Rugby cattle market where a cow escaped.

Yearly, millions of animals suffer a dreadful and frightening experience at cattle markets.

The poor creature that made a bid for freedom, knew its fate as these animals have intelligence and sensitivity. They are forced to stand for hours, often tightly packed in pens, in what is for them, alien surroundings.

I happened to call at the cattle market on that Monday at 5pm regarding another matter and as I left I saw cows being loaded on to a transporter and their unusually loud cries were penetrating.

I am sorry that someone has been injured but I believe that we should not have cattle markets. Auctioneering of animals should be carried out on computer - virtual auctioneering.

March is Vegetarian Month. Please save animals' lives and eat and enjoy a non-meat diet.
