Letter: Your Say - Can we match artist's vision?

Byline: Josephine Oriel Vitols

IN the past when there have been alterations afoot in our city we have had artists' impressions as to what the area would look like after the refit.

I have always found these to be very impressive, but sadly the designs and overall work have not always come up to expectations, in fact sometimes it ends up more like a damp squib.

What I would like to see is a bit more class and not so much grey-ness. We were given plain slab benches to sit on when the Bull Yard square was reconstructed and the knocking down of the quaint dome newsagent's shop was a pity when it was replaced only with an open space and a fiddly little water attraction. This hardly lived up to our expectations, yet probably looked quite grand to the artist's eye.

The Millennium Square too caused excitement when planned, yet many mistakes were made and already improvements are having to be done. When you think of the money spent, what have we got that is worth writing home about?

Our city needs a lift, so let us get it right this time round.
