Letter: You say - Pigeon problem.

IN response to the letters regarding pigeons (ECHO, August 23). I recently spent a number of days as an emergency patient in the Royal Liverpool hospital.

After numerous tests, questions were asked if I had been in contact with bird droppings, which I had. I was diagnosed with atypical pneumonia which is caused by a bacterial infection. The disease which is contracted from pigeons is called psittacosis, it can then lead to atypical pneumonia.

It is now nearly five weeks since I was hospitalised and I am still not back to my old self. So let me assure your readers, pigeons do carry diseases and the effect of it is extremely painful and debilitating.
