Letter: YOUR SHOUT - Let's give snapper a civic award.
IT WAS good to read in a recent article that Jimmy Forsyth is still going strong at the age of 95, and I am sure that everyone wishes him well.
Mr Forsyth can have the enormous satisfaction of knowing that he has single-handedly created an invaluable and lasting record of bygone way of life which, but for his foresight and skill, would simply have vanished without trace.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and his photographs capture not only streets and houses, but also their people - children playing and families in their homes, in fact a whole way of life from half a century ago and more.
It is important to know how our forefathers lived and now that his collection is in the care of the Newcastle archives, it will be permanently available to future generations.
In view of Jimmy Forsyth's contribution to Newcastle's heritage, would it not be possible for the council to honour him with some kind of civic award?
