Letter: YOUR SHOUT - Give work to the right people.

Byline: GEORGE HERSCHEL

ON THE day the Government announced that private firms and voluntary groups will be paid tens of thousands of pounds to get the long-term unemployed back to work, they also announced 12,500 job losses at the Department of Work and Pensions.

The private firms and voluntary groups have stated that they will have to recruit extra staff if they are successful in their bids to the Government for the contracts to get the long term unemployed back to work.

No doubt many ex-job centre workers with big redundancy payments in their back pockets will hope to be employed by the private companies or voluntary groups, but the whole point of this scheme is to get the long-term unemployed back to work, therefore the Government should insist that these groups only employ people who have been out of work for more than three years.
