Letter: YOUR SHOUT - Give travelling OAPs a break.

Byline: J GREEN

IN REPLY to CW Byker (Vent Your Spleen, June 20), maybe pounds 20-pounds 25 does not sound like a lot of money for travel, but some pensioners, managing on the basic pension, would beg to differ. OK there are many OAPs getting top-ups, but there are those who don't, and while we are on that subject, what about all those groups who will not work? Spending their time in clubs and pubs, they are quite content to sit back and take every handout that is on offer, from free rent, income support, social fund payments, tax credits, free meals, free council tax and much more. Suggesting pensioners contribute to travel passes? I don't think so, CW.

J GREEN, Hebburn.
