Letter: Viewpoints - Here are some other ways for Brown to tax us all...

Byline: Scott Cunningham

APPARENTLY, some people meet their maker as a result of being run over by a bus.

Consequently buses surely constitute a blatant risk to the nation's health and a strain on an already underfunded NHS.

So I propose that in order to discourage people from having anything to do with public transport we charge them a flat pounds 10 annual fee for a licence, entailing an ID card with photographic evidence, that entitles them to use this cancer that threatens the very fabric of society.

Similarly, I've been led to believe by The Sun newspaper and experts in the medical profession that as a result of eating too many chips, some people are what is described in politically incorrect circles as "fat".

Again, I propose that in order to discourage people from having anything to do with Caroline Street we charge them a flat pounds 10 annual fee for a licence, entailing an ID card with photographic evidence, that entitles them to use this cancer that threatens the very fabric of society.

Further, I read in The Lancet only last week that, as a result of consuming alcohol, some people get so inebriated in pubs that they've been known to participate in karaoke. Again, this threat to the nation's health can only be discouraged by charging such individuals a flat pounds 10 annual fee for a licence, entailing an ID card with photographic evidence, that entitles them to use this cancer that threatens the very fabric of society. Well, if Gordon "ten pounds of flesh" Brown wants an Ayrton Senna off me so I can stand outside in the pouring rain, freezing cold and gale force winds and enjoy a fag then why doesn't he boost his exchequer further with more loony taxes?
