Letter: Tunnel vision.

Byline: MARTYN SHREWSBURY

SIR - If Michael Meacher wishes to reduce rubbish then his actions should be given some consideration.

However, the Green Party urges him to drop his tunnel vision when it comes to waste.

Mr Meacher should look at the alternatives to landfill and the proposed incinerators in South Wales which we so vehemently oppose.

The Green Party believes that up to 85% of the current domestic waste stream can be recycled, and with a little ingenuity the level of waste we produce can also be cut.

Such measures would not cost councils much more than they are already paying for waste disposal and would save us a great deal in terms of pollution.
