Letter: Police lose out over written test.

Byline: GEOFFREY BUBB Kingswinford.

Sir,. - With the police force under-strength, so we read, I was surprised to learn that a personable young man of above average intelligence failed his entrance examination via a challenge to the quality for a written letter which, apparently, forms part of the test. I had thought that a candidate would have been assessed on his potential ability to outwit the criminal mind rather than his acumen in outwitting a police examiner by means of erudition and English grammar. The loss to the police force is the gain of the Royal Air Force into the technical branch of which Junior Service he has now been accepted.
