Letter: No to strike.

IN RESPONSE to the letter from Mr McAdam (Letters, September 12) I would like to say that while I understand you and your fellow firefighters' argument for the pay rise, and your letter explains the situation very clearly, I am not in support of proposed strike action.

What would this achieve? Imagine the worst-case scenario and there was an inferno in a high-rise block of flats and there were fatalities. Imagine innocent children dying as a result of your action. Do you honestly think that you would get your pay rise then? I somehow don't think so. I wonder how you would sleep at night?

If you are going to put lives at risk, then let the Army use the fire engines that will be lying idle in the stations while the firemen are drinking cups of tea and watching TV. Or should I say fiddling while Wirral burns.
