Letter: No one-off shops.

Byline: RW

I AM completely underwhelmed by the concept of Liverpool One, and cannot understand why its opening is garnering so much coverage.

At the end of the day, it is just another of the shopping centres that are homogenising our high streets up and down the country. I for one loathe the glass and chrome, fake greenery, strip lighting, environment of a shopping centre.

Even if you are partial to shopping centres, this one will add nothing to our city as far as I can tell.

The shops are all chain stores, so there's nothing distinctly Liverpudlian about it, and as far as I can tell there won't be any of the quirky one-off shops that give a city centre character.

In fact, it could be argued that this one is worse because of its gargantuan size. All it will do is suck the life out of other parts of the city centre.
