Letter: Must I pay for this?

Byline: John MacCabe

RE: DUPED on Abortion (Daily Post, September 2) -- human life obviously begins when an egg is fertilised -- when else? It follows that abortion is the murder of an unborn child.

As a taxpayer, I do not see why I should have to contribute towards what I consider to be a grossly immoral act. Therefore, abortions should not be provided on the NHS.

As for unplanned pregnancies, the solutions are obvious. Young men and women should return to the practice of chastity outside marriage, then there would be no risk at all of unplanned pregnancies, abortion and illegitimacy. And nor would there be a growing menace of an Aids pandemic. (At the beginning of the last century, the illegitimacy rate was only a few per cent).

As for unplanned pregnancies within a marriage, the couple should welcome the new child as a gift.
