Letter: Let the net do taxing work.

Byline: Les Holley

I WONDER how many readers will agree that renewing their car tax is a major palaver!

These days you can shop, contact your bank, arrange an adoption, cast your vote and, so it seems, arrange the sex of your child, all on the internet.

It is strange, therefore, that we have to undergo this unnecessary torture just to renew our road fund licence!

Firstly you have to collect together all those annoying bits of paper relating to your car and then trudge around to the nearest Crown Post Office.

You will probably have to do this during your lunch hour (it will most likely be raining) and you will find the post office jammed to the rafters with other hapless souls all on the same mission!

Every aspect of modern life can be organised online, except taxing your car. I am not surprised there are so many licence dodgers!
