Letter: Happy memories of Harmony Hall days; VOICE OF THE NORTH.

Byline: MALCOLM CUMMINGS

YOUR Name The Year photograph on Monday, March 31, which was taken in Newcastle's Newgate Street looking down towards Bigg Market, brought back many memories.

It was taken outside the store where I used to work after leaving school. The people on the left of the photograph are looking in the windows.

The store was called Harmony Hall. We sold pianos and furniture, and the store faced on to the Empire Theatre across the road.

I used to look forward to the different acts and shows that appeared each week. It was my task every Monday morning to go back stage to find out if the acts required any stage furnishings for their week's stay at the Empire.

The Evening Chronicle's Remember When magazine did a four-page feature on my time working at Harmony Hall last year regarding the Everly Brothers, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Shirley Bassey, Bruce Forsyth and Barbara Windsor.

I've lots of happy memories of Newgate Street. Thank you for showing that photograph.
