Letter: Finish the job.

SIR - With regard to your recent article about the cost of the Scottish Parliament and the fiasco over the National Assembly's debating chamber, my guess is the Scots have got it right and we've got it horribly wrong.

For pounds 400m what the Scots will get will be a first-rate parliament building to rank alongside the best in the world which I'm sure will, given time, become Edinburgh's answer to the Sydney Opera House, a massive tourist attraction and money spinner for Scotland. And us? Well, for the cheapskate price of just pounds 47m we'll end up with something that can easily be mistaken for an extension of Techniquest. With other landmark buildings in Cardiff such as the Millennium Stadium and the Millennium Centre surely it would make sense to finish the job by building a landmark parliament-type building in Bute Square for the National Assembly.

With the (by then) completed Millennium Centre nearby, who knows, perhaps the waterfront site could be used for that opera house.
