Letter: Fears were unfounded.

Byline: Sharon Cook

THE Tall Ships event over the weekend was fantastic! Very well organised right down to the last detail.

I have to admit to having very little faith in the council and the organisers for the City of Culture year - I had expected them not to "pull it off" and have the eyes of the world watch as we made a public embarrassment of ourselves.

But not so - very impressed. They had thought of everything: organised queuing, shuttle buses, pedestrianised areas, millions of stewards all very helpful and even a clean-up operation, plenty of bins we saw being emptied. It is with pleasure that I will eat my words and offer my sincere congratulations to everyone involved - please pass this on to all those involved - whoever it was, the police, the council, security companies - an excellent job! The city can hold its head up high.

Look forward to more of the events.
