Letter: Estate louts.
HAVING watched a documentary on television last Monday about the misconduct of a teenage lout on a housing estate in Llangefni, I was left appalled that our society tolerates such behaviour.
The lout had been served with an ASBO, banning him from various estates in the town, for a catalogueof very unpleasant deeds, including attacking an off-duty police officer on his own doorstep, and smashing another resident's front door at night.
Having watched the sorry tales of woe on the estate, I have nothing but sympathy for the poor locals whose lives had been made a misery.
I am also more convinced than ever that such behaviour merits not an ASBO but a good oldfashioned hiding, preferably administered by the State, but as that is highly unlikely in today's socio-political climate, by a gang of vigilantes la Charles Bronson.
If the State, via the police and the courts cannot/will not protect society, what alternative is there?
