Letter: Cross words.

WHATEVER next? I am not unpatriotic and, though not a strong monarchist, I have to wonder what is happening to this country when, at the time of the jubilee, the George cross is to be given more priority on public buildings on the Wirral than the Union Flag just because England are playing football in the World Cup.

What would have happened in this society, where we are encouraged to be non-prejudicial, had any one of the other nations of the UnitedKingdom qualified for this competition? Should therefore we not also fly the Irish flag as well due to the number of people in the area who will be supporting the Republic of Ireland.
