Letter: Call the city by its proper name.

Byline: M K HOMER

Dear Editor, -How do you expect Birmingham ever to achieve honours, like being declared Capital of Culture, when your newspaper continually refers to the city as 'Brum' -a most demeaning nickname associated more with the cloth caps of the 1920s and 30s than with the clean, sleek elegance of the 21st-century city.

This irritating and depressing use of the word is a relatively new departure for your newspaper and I would like to stop it at once.

M K HOMER Swadlincote.
