Letter: COMMENT & ANALYSIS - Battling with modern slavery; LETTERS to the EDITOR.

Byline: Mike Kelly

I MUST congratulate Cllr Flo Clucas for trying to put an end to the modern day slavery of women caught in the vile nature of the drug trade (Daily Post, December 29). It would appear that most of the young women on the streets selling their bodies for drugs are victims of state institutions and self-righteous people.

What Flo Clucas is trying to do in bringing about managed zones is to help women who are at the mercy of the state and the drug trade. Prostitution can never be eradicated, but women can be protected. What Flo Clucas is hoping to achieve are the same aims of Josephine Butler almost 150 years ago. Those women are being sacrificed by the Government for the sake of the multi-national companies who are the real drug barons, private prisons and the surveillance industries, just to name a few have to satisfy their share holders.

In the meantime, women's lives are torn apart and they are murdered on the streets. Keep up the good work, Flo, the exploited need a new champion.
