Letter: COMMENT & ANALYSIS - A good laugh; LETTERS to the EDITOR.

Byline: Andrew Gibb

A CONNOISSEUR of architecture in the Post (Letters, February 10) suggested a Fourth Grace design based on a rehash of several landmark buildings in Liverpool: sandstone, Doric columns here, domes there.

This maddens the modernists like myself, but maybe there is some merit in this idea. We need to produce a building that gets the world to come and visit (like a Guggenheim Bilbao), but one that pleases the retrospective tastes of Liverpolitans. I suggest we ask Prince Charles to design a new old-fashioned iconic building for us. It will put Liverpool on the world architecture map. Moreover, we could all have a good laugh about it.
