Letter: Bypass no way to boost image.
Byline: VIKAS SINGHALSir, - It's welcome news that 'Western bypass is set to be rejected' (Post, Oct 24) by the deputy Prime Minister.
Improvements to Birmingham New Street Station and the rail system should be increased. This will make the journey by rail more reliable, secure and comfortable and it will encourage more people to use trains for accessing the main shopping areas and nearby offices. It will also help to reduce the traffic congestion on roads.
The broader study looking into ways of improving the image of the Black Country is to be commended. Of course, the interests of pedestrians and cyclists should also be considered and proper footpaths and cycle ways should be developed to encourage people to use them.
I support the focus on renaissance in cities rather than construction of bypasses and hope that it will make the lives of the people in cities more attractive.
VIKAS SINGHAL Acocks Green, Birmingham.
