Letter: A true innovator in pointing field.

Byline: Christopher Sweeting

Stud owner Christopher Sweeting pays tribute to Jim Mahon, who died recently

I HAD the privilege to be on Jim Mahon's Point-to-Point Owners' Association (PPOA) committee.

Jim moved mountains to get Ashorne off the ground as a point-to-point course. Meetings were what they should be, short and to the point-we dotted the i's and crossed the t's that Jim had pencilled in.

Jim was an innovator and doer-the first Sunday point-to-point in Britain was on a course designed and virtually built by him and he also pioneered the air-cushioned whip. The PPOA was Jim Mahon.

A successful farmer, contractor and trainer (who can forget Blue Cheek winning the Aintree Fox Hunters'?), Jim has left so much as a

result of his enthusiasm and ability to unlock the doors of power.

Above all, Jim was a caring family man and deepest sympathy goes to Lil, Gabe and the rest of his family. He was a real friend to all who knew him.
