Letter: A quick word; G8.

Byline: MARIKA MIFSUD

Dear Editor, I was one of those who took part in the Reclaim the Streets demonstration in 1998 (Freeze Frame, Post Sept 27).

I remember the excitement as people gathered in Birmingham from all corners of Britain to send a message to the G8 leaders - that it was time to call a halt to road-building and act to protect our countryside.

Nearly ten years later, roads in the developed world are gridlocked, the polar ice cap is melting and extreme weather is causing havoc across the globe.

It seems the 'great nations' have finally opened their eyes to the problems of global warming.

Let's hope this time they do more than pay lip service - before it's too late.
