Letter: A Sometime hero.
WHILE we often hail a specific horse once he or she has been retired, or met a tragic fate on or off the racetrack, I feel it long overdue to acclaim one who has enlightened the jumping scene year in and out, and is still doing so.
The horse in question is See You Sometime, the stalwart and stable star of trainer James Mullins, and no doubt the apple of the eye of his owner-breeders Mr and Mrs Meaden.
How proud all must be to be involved with a horse like him - and how wonderful to see him coming good in springheeled fashion at Ascot.
See You Sometime is a horse who seems to have been around for ages, always putting his reputation on the line, but so often proving the bridesmaid on the really big occasion.
Even though his Ascot win was 'only' in a handicap chase, it was on a big stage and it was so richly deserved - though he always seems to win when my money isn't on!
Horses like See You Sometime warm the jumps season, and even though he won't be around for many more seasons (and he surely deserves a wonderful retirement ) - let's hope he will be around for some more races, so we can look for his sheepskin noseband out there in front, jumping with all his zest and enthusiasm and belying his years.
A warm thank you to his connections for sharing See You Sometime with us for so long now, and best wishes for the season.
