Lesbian jibes are too much to take.

Byline: Joan Burnie

Q I AM 18-years-old and I have a problem that I find really embarrassing.

I have a very low-pitched voice and also I have more body hair than most women. People just assume I am a lesbian which I find very embarrassing.

I did have a boyfriend but he admitted he got fed up with people teasing him about being seen with 'the lezzie'. My social life is now nil.

I even stopped playing pool which I really enjoyed because I felt so self-conscious. I'm not particularly masculine looking but I heard someone the other day asking if I was a 'Haley' - that's the transsexual on Coronation Street. What can I do?

A NOTHING. You've just got to try and ignore the jibes. Those who know you, know what you are.

I doubt everyone is as stupid as your ex. But there's no need for you to be equally daft and hide yourself away. If you must, find a beauty salon where you can get a decent wax and maybe consider consulting a speech therapist about lightening your voice, although honestly I wouldn't bother.

A low, husky voice in a woman is usually considered very sexy.
