Leo H. Brouillard, 98.
He leaves his wife of 69 years, Statia A. (Sobon) Brouillard; 2 sons: John L. Brouillard and his wife, Christine O. (Roy), and Paul E. Brouillard, all of Northbridge; 4 grandchildren: Jane C. Mason and her husband, Jeffrey, of Northbridge, Anne E. Tashjian and her husband, Christopher, of Charlton, Robert J. Brouillard and his wife, Christine (Soden), of Worcester, and Elizabeth M. Bennett and her husband, Brent, of Holden; 5 great-grandchildren: William J. and Samuel C. Tashjian of Charlton, Catherine M. and Sarah A. Brouillard of Worcester, and Ethan S. Bennett of Holden; a sister, Jeannette Bergan of Boynton Beach, FL; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward "Babe" Brouillard of North Oxford, and a sister, Estelle Szarek of South Grafton.
He was born in Northbridge on March 16, 1911, a son of the late Alberic and Leontine (Belanger) Brouillard, was educated in Northbridge schools, and was a lifelong resident of the town.
Mr. Brouillard was a punch press set-up man at Whitin Machine Works, Whitinsville, where he worked for 45 years, before retiring in 1976. Before that, he worked for several years at the Paul Whitin Manufacturing Co., Northbridge.
A member of St. Peter's Catholic Parish all his life, he worked for many years on the parish bingo team and in the religious education program. He was a Precinct 2 poll worker for the Town of Northbridge for many years.
He enjoyed sports, but baseball, especially Red Sox baseball, was his passion. During his lifetime, he was able to celebrate all three Red Sox World Championships. In his youth, he played center field for the Rockdale Mills baseball team; he played in the Blackstone Valley League; and he managed a team in the Whitin Machine Shop League. Because of his talent, he was given a tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals during spring training.
His funeral will be Thursday, May 7, from Turgeon Funeral Home, 80 School St., with a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 39 Church Ave. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Whitinsville. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, May 6, from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Northbridge Junior League Baseball, P.O.
