Leinenkugel Brewing marks record year with 33-percent sales increase over' 88

The Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co. shipped a record 120,000 barrels of beer in 1989, a 33-percent increase over 1988. Last year marked the fifth consecutive year Leinenkugel posted an increase in beer shipments.

Leinenkugel's president, T.J. "Jake" Leinenkugel, attributed the growth to strong sales performance of the company's brands and its traditional Upper Midwest markets as well as positive consumer response to the Leinenkugel's brand in expansion markets.

"It is especially gratifying to experience double-digit growth at a time when industry performance continues to be virtually flat," Leinenkugel said.

As part of the company's thrust into new markets in 1989, Leinekugel's, which had been available in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Upper Michigan and Illinois, also expanded its Midwest distribution to include Iowa and Disney-world in Lake Buena Vista, FL. It is also being test-marketed in Seattle, WA, and Massachusetts.
