Leinenkugel's aims at Chicago market.

Leinenkugel's announced it is advertising on Chicago television for the first time with two 30-second commercials, which are scheduled to run through the summer.

"Leinie's, as the beer is known, has a reputation for its distinctive 'Old World' flavor and north woods heritage and has established a strong following among beer connoisseurs," said Chad Vincent, Leinenkugel's brand manager. "The commercials stress the beer's difference and suggest to consumers that they look for it when they want something other than a conventional beer."

The new spots, created by Frankenberry, Laughlin & Constable in Milwaukee, begin with a hand plugging in an extension cord. A camera then follows the cord around a number of obstacles until it reaches the other end, which is connected to a refrigerator filled with Leinenkugel. A voice says: "For a smooth, distinctive beer that's outside the ordinary, reach for a Leinenkugel's. It's out there."
