Legislative and Association Changes Fuel 69% WAMB Membership Increase.

Year-Over-Year Membership Increase Milestone Marks Association's 20th Anniversary Celebration

EDMONDS, Wash., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Washington Association of Mortgage Brokers (WAMB), the voice for mortgage-related issues throughout the State of Washington, today announced that State-wide membership increased 69% so far in 2006. This largest-ever milestone, marked by the association's 20th anniversary, was fueled by significant legislative and association changes in 2006. Including a major consumer protection legislative effort called the Mortgage Brokers Practices Act waged by WAMB and a related member education-drive. The Mortgage Brokers Practices Act goes into effect in January 2007 and further elevates the integrity of the mortgage broker industry. With the Bills passing mortgage brokers become the only state-certified and licensed mortgage professionals available to consumers -- unmatched by even mortgage bankers.

2006 WAMB President Jeff Berglund stated, "This year the Washington Association of Mortgage Brokers aggressively sought to promote higher standards of business practices throughout our industry to provide consumers with unsurpassed professional service and more mortgage choice." Berglund added, "We took a significant step forward in achieving this milestone with the passing of the Mortgage Brokers Practices Act and WAMB also took the unprecedented step of offering free educational opportunities to new and renewing WAMB members to ensure that members had the tools and resources needed to pass the rigorous testing standards that will begin in 2007." Founded in 1986, WAMB celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with a milestone membership increase of 69% so far this year over 2005, and a bright membership outlook for 2007.
