Legal threat to Farage for ex-MEP claim.

Byline: BEN GLAZE Political Correspondent

NIGEL Farage could face a libel court case ahead of the election over comments he made about a former party MEP, it emerged yesterday.

Amjad Bashir's lawyers have demanded the UKIP leader apologises for claims he made following Mr Bashir's defection to the Tories in January.

They have written to Mr Farage over his allegations there were "unanswered financial and employment questions" surrounding the Yorkshire and Humber MEP.

The nine-page letter called the claims a "campaign to discredit Mr Bashir in retaliation for his decision to join the Conservatives".

It also demanded damages, legal costs and an apology in court from Mr Farage, who is a candidate in South Thanet, Kent.

UKIP refused to comment.
