Legal & Finance: Pay questionnaire warning.

Research by Bevan Ashford has revealed a lack of awareness of new equal pay questionnaire procedures.

Some 17 per cent of private sector companies were unaware that the questionnaire was introduced on April 6 this year, compared with 15 per cent in the public sector.

According to Sara Woffenden, an employment law specialist with Bevan Ashford, employers need to ensure their HR professionals are aware of the procedures. She said: 'The questionnaires can be produced to support an employee's pay claim before an Employment Tribunal. More importantly, the Tribunal can draw adverse inferences if the employer fails to respond fully to the questions posed.'

Although only two employers had so far received a questionnaire, Ms Woffenden warns against complacency.
