Leftist Israeli Lawmakers, Activists Protest New Settlement in Jerusalem.

JERUSALEM, June 1, 2011 (WAFA) A' Leftist Knesset members along with Peace Now activists demonstrated on Wednesday to protest the construction of a new Jewish settlement A'MaA'aleh HaZeitimA' in the Arab neighborhood of Ras el-Amud, southeast Jerusalem.

Protestors expressed their resentment of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin NetanyahuA's government for building this new settlement in the heart of Jerusalem. Several Palestinian personals from Jerusalem also participated in this protest. The protest ended peacefully, with no confrontations reported. In a related development, hundreds of settlers, living in the houses seized from their Arab owners, are preparing for a provocative march to mark the celebration of the 44 anniversary of the annexation of East Jerusalem. The march, which will be under police and army protection, is to start from the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah and to reach al-Aqsa Mosque compound, the holiest Muslim site in Jerusalem. Israeli police set up a big tent in the neighborhood center, where settlers and police are to meet after the march of A'Dancing with the Israeli FlagsA'. M.N./F.R.
