Lee thriller riding tall.

TAIPEI: Ang Lee's spy thriller Lust, Caution dominated the Golden Horse Awards in his native Taiwan yesterday, winning best film, best director and best actor.

Tony Leung Chiu-wai won for his portrayal of a calm, ruthless Japanese-allied spy chief in the Second World War-era Shanghai.

Female lead Tang Wei, however, lost to veteran Joan Chen, who won best actress honours for portraying the struggles of a Hong Kong nightclub singer who moves to Australia in The Home Song Stories.

Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Ka-fai won best supporting actor for playing a gangster who tries to protect his son from revenge in The Drummer.

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing was named best supporting actress for playing a ghost in The Matrimony.

Lee said he wanted to try his hand at comedy next.

"I think shooting Brokeback Mountain was like being in Eden, in heaven while shooting Lust, Caution was like going down to hell," Lee said.
