Lecturer post scrapped at IITs.

THE HRD ministry has acceded to some of the demands of the faculty members of the Indian Institutes of Technology ( IITs) and abolished the entry- level lecturer's post. It has also increased the pay scale of assistant professors, but has not withdrawn the cap on promotion of professors to senior grade.

The entry- level post will now be called assistant professor. After three years of service, a teacher will move from pay band 3 ( Rs 15,600- 39,100) to pay band 4 ( Rs 37,400- 67,000). But their designation will continue to be assistant professor. IIT faculty members are reportedly not pleased with the 40 per cent cap on promotion of professors to senior grade.
