Daughter of Saudi Arabian National Kidnapped in September Is Freed

Lebanese Interior Minister Ziad Baroud held a news conference on Friday, announcing the kidnapping and then freeing of a Saudi Arabian girl, the Beirut daily AN NAHAR reported Saturday. Baroud said that Abdullah Yehia bin Abdul Aziz al-Ayyoubi reported to the Internal Security Forces that his daughter was kidnapped on September 17, and that he had received telephone calls demanding a ransom to be paid for her release. It was revealed during the press conference that a Syrian citizen residing in Lebanon kidnapped the girl. The paper reported exclusively on Saturday that the kidnapping was related to a quarrel between Ayyoubi and his wife in Syria. According to AN NAHAR, Ayyoubi's wife took their daughter and came to Lebanon, where she contacted the Syrian citizen and arranged for him to kidnap her daughter, demanding a ransom that would then be shared between Ayyoubi's wife and the Syrian kidnapper.

The paper added that upon Ayyoubi's arrival at ISF headquarters, he received another telephone call from the kidnapper, demanding the ransom. Ayyoubi reportedly told the kidnapper that he would pay the ransom at Dora roundabout in Beirut. Security Forces were waiting and arrested the kidnapper and freed the daughter.
