The Lebanon central bank has sought extra powers for the benefit of consumers.

The bank said that it needs the extra powers to regulate and standardize controls that commercial banks are imposing on depositors. The the central bank head said that it is aiming for fair treatments of consumers by banks.

Commercial banks in the nation have been tightly controlling access to deposits in order to prevent capital flight.
