Lease rate for plots in Dhamdum yet to be fixed.
Following the completion of the works on the boundary walls, the Dhamdum Industrial Park in Samtse is almost complete now as the Industrial Infrastructure Development Division (IIDD) under the economic affairs ministry waits for approval of the industrial lease rate for the plots. Chief Engineer Kezang Deki said once the proposal for the industrial lease rate is approved by the ministry of finance, the department will formally announce calls for proposal. So far the department has not received any proposal for industrial set up. 'We have not accepted any proposal without fixing the lease rate.
The department fears of being accused of favoring the candidates,' she said. 'But the department has started receiving queries.
The department has proposed for the lease rate last December.' Meanwhile, the remaining pockets, B and C, are yet to be developed.
The department still needs to install water supply till the reservoir.
The river training walls along the Dhamdum river will also be done at a later stage.
The construction of industries' office has also been completed.
The boundary walls with three packages worth Nu 2.55mn have been completed this year. Also, the work on first phase of river training has been completed after it was taken over by the Department of Industrial Development under the economic affairs ministry.
The river training wall will reclaim around nine acres of land.
The construction of roads and drainage has also completed with some rectification works.
The works on the construction of park office, installing electricity and water supply are still underway and are expected to be complete by this year. Similarly, works on the boundary walls and security staff quarters are about to complete. However, the works on the construction of four public toilets, street lighting and two gates are yet to start.
The works on sewerage system and landfill are yet to be constructed, which will be done in 12th Plan.
The Nu 358mn project that started in 2008 with funding from GOI has also provisions for a football stadium.
The park will also provide facilities like parking lot, footpath, weighing machines, internal road networks, among others.
The entire park is divided into three pockets, A, B and C. Currently most of the developmental works are being carried out at zone A, the major chunk.
The rest two pockets, towards the right bank and below Samtse-Sibsoo road will be developed later based on the needs. 77 plots are created from 349 acres for the companies.
The construction phase is expected to take 10 years, according to Site Engineer Sonam Wangchuk. 'But the industries can start construction and operate,' he said.
The department will start tendering the plots for applicants by this month end. Unlike other industrial estates, Dhamdum Industrial Park will house non-polluting medium scale industries like agro based industries such as dairy, ice cream and pickle manufacturing industries, among others.
